Spring has Sprung; Fall is Fallen
Well, around these parts, it may be blue and warm in the afternoon still, but somewhere, the cabal between school principals and the old gods of the weather has come to fruition; mist settles over the field outside my window, and the sock drawer is getting more action than should be allowed.
Yes—It's September. Egads.
Well, Fall always means productivity to me, for some odd reason. Two stories on my plate have been taking my time away from sewing, but that doesn't mean I don't fit in projects where I can, here and there. I've also made the site a bit more cheerful and interesting (I hope) and consolidated the Diaries and Research page into just Research, which makes more sense to me and gives me one less page to update. And, there's a bit more info in there, and one new project I'm working on. Which reminds me—what am I working on?
New Projects
First up, I've spotted and attempted to replicate a really nifty Bellydance Panel Belt with materials on hand and my own background in lacy-uppy things. Aka. Corsets. I plan on integratng this with a short pattern drafting tutorial.
Then, I've got some really pretty plaid fabric that Hubby found on clearance. It has a nice enough drape that I think I can bust out a Retro Circle Skirt to wear with tights and these cool kitten heel boots I found. Again, on Clearance. Oh yeah!
The Great Wedding Dress Repurposing
This is a new project that deserves its own subheading. Let's face it—I've been called many things in my life, but nostalgic is not one of them, to quote a superhero. When Hubby and I got married, I picked out a dress that was suitably big and white and pouffy, but now? It's just sitting in my spare closet. Hanging, really; not even laundered or boxed or whatever you're supposed to do with them. Bo-ring.
The style is a Maggie Sottero 'Dion,' and while lovely, it's neither 'me' nor something I'll ever need to wear again. I want it to live, see parties, jet-set, and have at least as interesting of a fantasy life as I like to have. Which is why I'm going to cut it up, dye it purple, and make it awesomer. Right now, I have just some sketches of the style I want—a retro, tailored concoction with matching bolero—and as soon as I get my bearings on a design, I'll be patterning that bad girl. Meow!
